Crop Report - 25th February 2022

Crop Report February

Valentines done and dusted and the three named storms of last week have certainly blown the cobwebs away! Growers are gearing up for Mother’s Day and the final bulbs for the peak of Mother’s Day are being planted.#

The 8th March is International Women’s' Day - this year the hashtag is

#BreakTheBias. This is an important day to support an ideal warm up to Mothers Day which presents an opportunity to promote early and International support for women all around the world.

Check out the IWD website here https://www.internationalwomensday.com/

Tulips

  • This week we have double tulips 'Icoon' a full and blousy double petalled Orange and Largo - shorter head but just as gorgeous in light red, both ideal for Spring mixes.

  • Just for a change we are supplying Tulips on the bulb - This weeks variety will be Denmark - and sold in 20's. We think it adds great interest to the offering and they last and last without much water at all; especially if kept cool! Great for shop window displays!

Daffodils (St.Davids Days)

  • St Davids Day - Daffodils galore! Plenty of Isle of Scilly Narcissi and Lincolnshire Daffodils and we may even have some doubles appearing over the weekend... Lincolnshire Daffodils are well underway now and in boxes of 40/80’s

  • Lincolnshire crops are in Dutch Master so we should see the Scottish season starting in a few weeks. Despite a slow start to the season, it is now predicted to be around 5 days ahead which bodes well for the specials and doubles appearing for Mother's Day :)

Moss

  • Norfolk sustainable Moss for Topping off planters and Kokedama is back in stock

Hyacinth

  • Hyacinth continue and there's plenty - blue, pink and white. Please also note that the stem count has increased from 25 stems to 30 stems per bundle.

Hellebores

  • Hellebores are gaining momentum so should be enough to go around this week!

Alstro

  • Alstro - trickling in - if you're quick you'll get it :) just a few bunches.

Twigs & Branches

  • Spring twigs - love them! Fab for adding 'perceived value' to designs - Pussy willow Branches, Silver birch bundles and few wobbly willow left... if anyone needs twisted willow let me know and I will send a man up the tree :)

Mothers Day Planning

In addition for the weekend before Mothers Day we will be doing Sunday dispatch for MONDAY delivery - this will enable you to split your order and get foliage's etc early so you can start prep-work.  Please also remember if you would like plants (trolley delivery ONLY) you can add flowers, sundries etc to your trolley order. Tulips will be in water, ready to use, you will not need to condition, this is to reduce packaging and save you valuable time.

Daffodils and Narcissi for spring mixed bouquets will also be on pre-order.

Indoor with leaves will continue and these are a longer stem length - do not cut - they are perfect for including into spring bouquets. They can be mixed with tulips easily if you don’t cut the white section off the base.
